It was a cold night and i realized that this is just the beginning. While i was planning for the trip, one of my friend Deepak who had been to Italy told me to visit this lake Lago Di Garda.I heard many stories of the lake from him, about its expanse and beauty. With that i also added Strada Della Forra in my plan, also known as The Gorge road. But before we reach Lago Di Garda,we have more passes to explore.
I stopped for a coffee and croissant in a small town, yes we are close to France. We should get used to the croissant :).What made my day was this “smile you are in Italy” 🙂
Around Dolomites region, you encounter many such old towns which have a different charm to it.Slow and peaceful life, people enjoying the sunshine and many other things which you cannot put in words but you can only feel it.I couldn’t stop myself to stop every now and then and notice the life and movement around me,and sometimes i was just pausing as i was intrigued with the variety in the beautiful architectures.
San Pellegrino was the first pass of the day.
Towards San Pellegrino pass
This pass was okay.Having seen some magnificent parts of dolomite’s the other day, this looked slightly average.
Apart from motorcyclists, you cannot fail to see lot of cyclists traversing around these passes in Alps. That’s a rare sight in India as most of us are too lazy to spend precious holidays cycling around mountains. But i guess,it is changing now.I do see lot of people commute to work on cycle and riding around Himalayas on bicycles not only in summers but in winters as well.
Rolle pass was next ,it wasn’t very far from San pallegrino and pretty soon i was there.Slightly better sight to behold 🙂
Ride from Rolle pass to Manghen pass was the best one.while you climb the pass, there aren’t any views which you can take a peek at..mostly blocked by the huge trees. But,the tight corners, narrow roads and beautiful forest around is totally worth it.It was quite fun leaning around left and right and reaching the top, beware of the cows they appear from nowhere sometimes..which is rare sight in Europe but i speak from experience 🙂
There is a nice little pond at the top,a restaurant and some views of the road you followed.
I had lunch in my mind and that calls for a Burger treat,i arrived in Trento and parked myself at McDonald’s.Free Wifi and junk food,it was the need of the moment.Specially after the hit and trial we did with spaghetti the other day.
Road to Lago Di Garda was a busy one from Trento,It seems it is true what my friend told me about the lake.It is indeed beautiful and desired by many people.I had the first sight of it when i finally arrived at Linfano,it was truly gorgeous. It almost looked like the beautiful fjords i saw in Norway.I made my way towards Strada della forra.
Road leading to the gorge is quite narrow and best suitable for motorcycles. There are beautiful curves, small tunnels through the rock and with every turn you take you see different landscapes. One particular section of the road is one way, only one side of the traffic is allowed at one time. This is the most interesting part, where it passes through the gorge created by river brasa. No stopping is allowed while you are on this route and it is usually dark there,so the only photo i have is this 🙂
For the night i stayed in Cevedale camping site.
