The 5 euro hostel where i stayed was worth every penny.Free breakfast, awesome company, comfortable stay, chilled beer and what a view of the Albanian coastline. Here is the balcony where i spent most of my time during my stay.
I met Juoko from Finland in the hostel who was also travelling around Europe and Balkans on his Honda. For entire year he is moving around Europe and Balkans. How he is managing funds ?? He has rented his flat in Finland and the monthly rent is fueling his passion. He tells me with a smile but worried expression on his face that the tenant has stopped giving rent for last couple of months and he need to rush back to Finland to get thing straightened out.
Juoko tells me to skip Tirana ,so i decided to head towards Lake Ohrid and spend some time in Macedonia. With some research over internet i found that Northern Albania is much beautiful and paradise for motorcyclist,i thought of visiting that part later while exiting from Kosovo. But,before that i took the coastal route to Vlore and took a U-turn taking a trail towards Tepelene.
From Sarande to Vlore there are numerous beaches, crystal clear water and lovely coastline just like Greece.Albania can be termed as poor man’s Greece.Hotels and food next to this coastline were quite cheap.
Around Mount Cika
Interesting number 🙂
While the immense heat was back to bother me,i had to stop somewhere in between and take a swim in Adriatic Sea.
After reaching Vlore i followed SH76,I expected it to be a bumpy and narrow tar road but it went way beyond my expectations. This road was super fun to ride, nice offroad after my time in Northern Iran. There were some patches with hurdles here and there and rest of it was amazing glide. One such moment where i slipped and immediately picked my bike, later i realized that i should have taken a photo so i put the bike back in same situation..clicked photos and videos from every angle and moved on
I took my time on this route, there were moments where i thought that i am lost for rest of my life..didn’t find a single vehicle in the entire stretch just few folks on few horses. The only thing i had for navigation was the offline maps on my mobile. But the landscapes and fresh air was worth every slip and slide i endured.
Part of the road which lead to an dead end :/
I reached Tepelene by evening and got a hotel for 10 euros with safe parking. What followed was some local Albanian beers and interesting conversation with people sharing the same drink 🙂
